Resumen

The study aimed at understanding the social representations of the about-to-be-graduated students from the lecturing courses of a public university in the State of Bahia about the college teaching in the process of teachers training. The data was collected by using the technique of Free Association of Words (F.A.W.), performed in the process of two focal groups organized with the participation of seventeen students. These informants came up with forty-four words of which the meanings were associated with the inductive term college teaching. After the treatment of the data, the elements that probably constitute the central core of these representations were put into evidence; they are: learning, teacher, interchange, knowledge, student. However, when we analyzed the elements that constitute the peripheral system of the representations referred to above, we became aware of the existence of an evident contradiction, indicating that the college training wasn’t enough for undergraduate students to transform the representations that were created and reproduced during these individuals’ school life.
