This paper present results from my master’s thesis. We investigated an informal educational experience destined to youths, which has youth protagonism as the center of its pedagogical proposal. A qualitative case study was carried out, taking the social representation theory as theoretical-methodological orientation, with the objective of perceiving the young people’s educator’s representations, during the learning process of youth protagonism. The object of the study was thus outlined by the educator praxis as mediator of this learning process. The representations then perceived revealed that, far from having a work oriented to incentive young people to learn how to participate and to intervene socially, this occurs as a result of the youth mobilization in response to existential conditions and insertion in the different segments of everyday life. These representations are anchored in four categories: provoker, listener, emancipator and rooter educator. This study aimed to contribute to elucidate the educator’s role in the formation of participative and autonomous young people, through the recognition of the aspects that set up the practice of youth protagonism under a critical perspective.
