The diversification of higher education can neither signify a classificatory hierarchization nor serve as an alibi to drown the small and medium-size institutions in a world of mediocrity and conjectural necessaries. The mission of the university is valid for higher education as a whole: the university reenergizes itself through this historical capacity of being immersed in given objective conditions, in a specific time and space, remaining faithful to its nature and motivated by its primary vocation: to be a space of critical reflection, discovery, invention of new knowledge, committed to the construction and consolidation of a democratic society.
