Resumen

PRIMI, Ricardo  y  MORAES, Ilmara Fátima de. Validity of a college teacher course ratings questionnaire. Avaliação (Campinas) [online]. 2005, vol.10, n.03, pp.41-59. ISSN 1414-4077.

The study investigates validity and reliability of a student's ratings questionnaire for the assessment of teacher effectiveness. It was composed by 15 questions with 5 point scale. A University at São Paulo State used it by asking students to respond on-line in Internet "secure mode". Participation was optional and voluntary. A total of 3689 students evaluated 568 teachers of 36 programs. The questionnaire was submitted to a factor analysis, cluster analysis and its scores were correlated student grades. Internal consistency reliability was excellent (a=0,965). Items grouped in one factor. Cluster analysis confirmed this unidimensionality. Although this construct may be conceived as multi dimensional, this finding suggests that students have a global opinion about teachers’ performance. The correlation grades-ratings was statistically significant (p<O,05) for 12% of cases. This indicates lhat although there were some cases where it was possible to infer some interference based on association of grades with teacher ratings in the majority of cases there is no such interference.
