The present article intends to show, from the course “The psychiatric power” given by Michel Foucault at the Collège de France in 1973-1974, the relationship between ascetic exercises and the pedagogical practices developed in medieval religious communities and the historic constitution of disciplinary power. For this, it is evaluated the strategic place of Foucault’s courses to the understand of his thinking, as it is pointed the consequence of its analysis, that is, firstly, the necessity of solitude, of isolation for the production of knowledge and, on the other hand, however, the necessity to break this isolation, in view of the social circulation of knowledge. Find a resolution to this conflict is, for its part, a form of resistance to disciplinary power.
