This study investigates the relation between student performance results from two public high schools in Fortaleza, Ceará, and a series of indexes related to school organization and to the teachers in the period of 2010-2019. This qualitative study uses data from the website of the Anísio Teixeira National Institute of Educational Studies and Research (Inep) and from the Ceará Office of Education (Seduc). The analysis identified external and internal factors to the school environment which are related to student performances at large scale evaluations, factors such as socioeconomic level, school admission conditions in each school, with considerable variations to the average daily lesson time, complexity of school management and indexes related to the teachers such as adequate education, effort, and teachers regularity.
