This article presents the pedagogical proposal used by the Programa de Esporte e Educação Campeões da Vida do Instituto Guga Kuerten. It highlights the problems that the program has faced since 2015 in relation to the evasion of its participants, as well as dealing with the types of motivation and behavior regulations present in the Self-Determination Theory. In order to increase the intrinsic motivation and adherence of its participants, it suggests some possibilities for practical application of the concepts of the Self-Determination Theory to be tested in social projects.
