In Brazil, the right to education and universal access to basic education are recent achievements. Even so, pre-existing problems in building the school bond already left a significant number of children and adolescents on the sidelines of the education networks. The Covid-19 pandemic aggravated the problem, since, by imposing the need for social distancing, and the holding of non-face-to-face classes, interposed, between the institution and its students, the requirement for a set of equipment, technologies and skills, whose availability and access are far from being equal. In this article, based on a selection of data from the 2020 School Census regarding the provision of resources, equipment and non-contact teaching strategies to the set of schools that provide basic education, we will seek to understand the acute challenges imposed on the exercise of the right to education, throughout the first year of the Covid 19 pandemic in the country. The findings demonstrate that the need to use technical and infrastructural mediations in the schooling process, especially at the fundamental level, placed obstacles to the right of access to education in the country, exacerbating educational inequalities and making, probably, an entire school generation vulnerable.
