Situating pedagogical thought in the History of Brazilian education, this article shows that in constructing in own specific nature, Brazilian pedagogical thought, from the 1930’s to 1980’s, sought a solid scientific base. However, from the 1990’s on, there has been a strong inversion - the aspiration to science has given way to the phenomenon of disbelief in science. Pedagogical thought has taken the route of deconstruction of previous ideas, placing a “post” or “neo” prefix on them. Currents of thought such as neoproductivism, neo-New School philosophies and neoconstructivism are the result of this metamorphosis which dominates the current Brazilian pedagogical scene.
