Looking for an effective approach between university and society, the Brazilian postgraduate system financed by CAPES has invested in the implementation of several Professional Master’s programs (MP). This study aims to reflect on the formation process of the MP course of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) by the reconstruction of its history. The key strategies that the group of teachers have elected to support the proposal will be reinforced, since the course creation until the beginning of 2016, when the course no longer opened vacancies. For that, nine former teachers who integrated the Physics Teaching MP course were interviewed. The narrative analysis, based on the group development, reveals that these strategies had relative success in facing the difficulties and vicissitudes that have emerged in the proposed implementation process. Lastly, suggestions are made to support the conduction of Professional Masters courses in order to contribute to the professional development of teachers in teaching science area.
