This paper analyzes three lines of research that have developed in this century, focusing on teaching manuals in circulation in Brazil. After describing the research tools, the consistency of the results is discussed, particularly, in relation to the categorizations of manuals resulted from researches. Based on the types of manuals defined by these researches, the work seeks to evaluate the future possibilities for these research programs, especially in regard to the expansion of their temporal and spatial cuttings. From the point of view of the history of pedagogy, it is discussed the greater potential of researches on this area, resting on the categorization of manuals that approach school models historically adopted by Brazilian schools.
