The article is a literature review that aims to understand the constitution of the field of history of education in the states of Amazonas and Pará, highlighting some characteristics of its productions. The research carried out in the Graduate Programs in Education (PPGEs) of public universities in Amazonas and Pará points to a predominance of social and cultural history with the use of official sources. Among the innumerable challenges of the constitution of this field is the increase of scientific production in the face of the universe of sources that have not yet been investigated and that require a public policy for the preservation of collections. Such developments instigate new research and paths to be followed by the history of education in these states.
