Themes related to reading practice within the school environment are analyzed, with special reference to the following items: a) reading is the space/instance of interaction between the author and the reader through the mediation of the text; b) competent readers (the school must form readers who are able to read in a satisfactory way the texts that are provided); the text’s reading levels (there is a certain level which the students must reach). Since it is impossible that subjects control the meaning of words or grasp a meaning that would express what allegedly the text’s author intended to produce, interacting in reading shall be problematized and complicated when foregrounded on notions involving function -authorship and function -reading. A reading practice is thus recommended which considers a wider context of language production; in other words, discourse
