The present text is a result of narrative research, qualitative approach, entitled “the uses of reading and writing in child education”, held in two Municipal Centers of early childhood education of the city of Teresina-PI, involving eight speakers, from daily writing class, reflected on his reading and writing practices with children, from 3 to 6 years old. The study sought to answer: what are the uses of reading and writing in early childhood education? Among other things, it was found that the text not being worked as social practice of uses of reading and writing, appearing mostly as a backdrop to work mechanically these language skills.
