Based on documentary analysis, this study iscusses pedagogical work in the state network of Rio Grande do Sul (Sartori government, 2015-2018), highlighting policies aimed at reforming the State to overcome the financial deficit, in line with political guidelines in the context of the fragile Brazilian democracy. The data produced indicated the movements of meanings about public education and pedagogical work impacted by the actions of that government, which has faced an extremely challenging situation so far.
