This study describes rural dweller's perceptions of the importance they give to their schools, specifically in relation to the curriculum and the teacher's characteristics. Data were obtained through a questionaire applied to a sample of parents and students of a rural community in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Findings show that, besides the inclusion of agriculture to the curriculum of the rural schools, the process of ruralization must also consider the needs resulting from industrial and urban development.
