The present study reports on a research project aimed to understand the relationship between art and democratic education within the federal institutes in a reactionary context. Based on document analysis and content analysis, the study investigated 24 “full texts” on teaching/research/extension activities relating to Art at federal institutes, published in the Anais do II, III e IV Encontro Nacional de Professores de Arte dos Institutos Federais [Annals of the II, III and IV National Meeting of Art Teachers at Federal Institutes]. The data analyzed indicate that the “full texts” of the Annals reflect the relationship between art and democratic education from the perspective of education through democracy, leading to the claim that they constitute a set of documents that express art’s resistance at the federal institutes in a reactionary context.
