The present paper analyzes the Exame Nacional de Desempenho dos Estudantes [National Student Performance Examination], applied in 2017 to undergraduate students in Language and Literature courses. Based on the reflections in the fields of research on literature teaching and on the theory-practice relationship in teacher training, a study of the issues related to literature is presented to understand the conception of literary education assumed in the evaluation. The results are presented in comparison with a study of the four previous editions, carried out in 2019. The findings point to a diversity of authors, a discourse of flexibilization in relation to the canon, and a conception of literary education focused on the critical literacy of students.
