This paper, analyzing the changes occurred over the last twenty years in the world economy, seeks to clarify their impacts on the BraziIian bourgeoisie and in particular the adherence to the principIes of the neoliberal policies of the Third Way. We reflect upon the consequences of this process for professional formation, and especially for the policy of teacher formation. In elementary education, a new profiIe for teachers is required which includes new criteria to enter the world of work, transforming the scholars institutions and characterized by the accumulation of new roles for the teachers and the increased control over their activities, which dissociate them always more from their social function. We conclude by a reflection on the definitions in that area in the new National Education Plan.
