The article relates twelve years of experience with academic evaluation, specifically in the field of agronomic science. The present study had as objectives: 1. to analyze the meaning of evaluation with regard to academic achievement in the Masters degree programs of Faculdade de Ciências Agronômicas (FCA) of Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP), Botucatu; 2. to present and to analyze the results of an ethnographic research involving the evaluation of academic achievement in the Masters degree Programs of FCA/UNESP, Botucatu; 3. to discuss the formulation of an evaluation proposal that is coherent with the Pedagogical Project of the Masters degree Program of FCA and the expectations of faculty and students.
