Abstract This article intends to contribute to the understanding of Physics teaching development in Brazil, from the history of its teaching in the region of Campinas, in the state of São Paulo, in the early 1940’s. The developed research highlights historical aspects of the creation of the first universities in Brazil and, particularly, the Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Campinas, whose first undergraduate courses exist for 70 years, such as the Mathematics course, whose curriculum - which includes Physics - laboratories, equipment, bibliographies and first professors are presented.
