The article analyzes the new Law on Democratic Management of the school units of the state public basic education network in the State of Acre, Law No. 3,141 / 2016, which replaced Law No. 1,513 / 2003, emphasizing the change in the profile of the new school principal, which does not require teacher training for the direction of the school. According to our analysis, it is pertinent to consider the context of reform experienced by the Brazilian State in the last decades and the influences of such reform in the institutions and public services of educational nature, configured in the conception of a New Public Management - NGP. The reduction of management costs and the increase of productivity in public administration under the logic of private initiative have determined relevant changes in educational policy in Brazil, directly influencing the functioning and routine of schools and can be considered determinant also in the educational reforms undertaken in Acre. The theoretical references are based on Oliveira (2011), Ball (2004; 2005), Souza (2006), Paro (2015), among others. The research followed a qualitative, bibliographical and documentary approach. The conclusive aspects point out that the change in the profile of the principal is constituted as unconstitutional, therefore illegal, as well as a historical retrocession for disregarding and devaluing the whole struggle for teacher training in the country and in the state of Acre.
