When dealing with social intervention, the social workers often meet some situations which seem unsolvable. We predicate that part of these situations mobilizes some contradictions which paralyze the action and destroy its meaning. On the base of Yves Barel’s theories, we are going to clarify our conception of the paradoxical situations registered in existential contexts along with their effects. We are going to illustrate these theories in the field of social intervention with a practical example from a doctorate research and we will see how some strategies known as « paradoxical » allow the stakeholders to get out of these situations without actually excluding the contradictions inherent to human activity.propositions to build a critical education based on Freire’s pedagogical heritage.
