Departing from a range of pivotal notions, such as the idea of system, universal history and of psychological, ideological and cosmologic motives at the heart of its conception, this work utilizes some principles taken from Carlo Cattaneo’s reflections to illustrate his vision of the Orient and of its rapport with the West, situated at the core of both of the ongoing process of civilisation and as somehow connected with a cross-cultural perspective. Indeed, thanks to the critique and to every metaphysical thought one begins to discover the historical, sociological as well as legal and political complexity binding the different peoples of mankind, thus allowing an analysis founded on an idea of dialogue with the other, and the recognition of other worlds and cultures.
