The role of school and community mediator teacher (PMEC) was established in São Paulo, Brazil, in 2010, through implementation of the School Protection System, whose purpose is to coordinate the execution planning of preventive measures, mediation and conflict resolution in the school environment. This study intended to characterize the PMECs that are allocated in a Board of Education in the hinterland of São Paulo with the construction of their profile, meeting and discussing their proposals and action strategies. For that, a survey was applied, reaching 82% of them. It was found that the main action was combating truancy, which is the specific focus of that Board and for what the PMCEs search for support in the health services, Child Protection Council, public safety and social protection services, in an individual-centered perspective, specifically the student, rather than the collective perspective covering other school and community characters.
