SANTOS, Gilca Ribeiro dos  e  QUILLICI NETO, Armindo. Memory and educational ideas in motion: the legacy of Francisco Lucrécio and Ironides Rodrigues. Cad. Hist. Educ. [online]. 2015, vol.14, n.1, pp.209-226.  Epub 20-Mar-2024. ISSN 1982-7806.  https://doi.org/10.14393/che-v14n1-2015-13.

This article is the result of research carried out in defense of master’s thesis developed in the Post-Graduation Program in Education of the Federal University of Uberlândia. The research analyzes the memory of educational experiences built by Frente Negra Brasileira (FNB) Brazilian Black Front (BBF) and Teatro Experimental do Negro (TEN) Black Experimental Theater (BET), between 1930 and 1960, from the perspective of their founders Francisco Lucrécio and Ironides Rodrigues. From historiography contributions and the analysis of documentary sources, among them the official records, the memories of ex-militants, the press newspapers and the official jour- nal of the Brazilian Black Front, “A voz da Raça” and “Quilombo” newspaper published by Black Experimental Theater, this study aims to refute the thesis of black people’s “marginalization” , which gives the impression that this social segment had little contribution to the educational field, because they did not took a fair advantage of it. The central conclusion of the investigation is that the literacy courses, the object of analysis in this study, were created from the desire of black segment by giving practical applicability to ideologies about school knowledge as an instrument of entrance and social mobility. Likewise, it has also emerged as an alternative to the difficulties of access to public schools and the need to establish an educational project with specific cultural characteristics.
