This study is the result of a master’s research in education (SILVA, 2020). It aims to present how the issue of licit and illicit drugs has been addressed in the literature in the field of Popular Education. The text is organized into four sections that comprise, respectively, the introductory aspects; methodological procedures; Results and discussion; final considerations. Methodologically, it was necessary to carry out a narrative review of the literature, updated for the elaboration of this work. The research cut comprised the last nine years (2014-2022), for data collection the CAPES Periodicals Portal was used. Some of the results are, for example: 1) the phenomenon of drugs is understood from a critical perspective, as it seeks to problematize the contradictions that are part of the way this theme has been approached in society. The drug policy itself is being questioned and criticized, in addition to the prevention approaches that are guided by it; 2) the choice of Popular Education as a guide for drug education actions has to do with the understanding that this educational concept represents an alternative contrary to hegemonic, essentially repressive approaches; 3) Actions that aim to discuss the issue of drugs in an educational way use different didactic and methodological tools. What they all have in common is the option for Popular Education as the guiding theoretical conception of their approaches. Among the conclusions, it is stated that when seeking the reference of Popular Education, the objective is to educate about drugs, but also about reality through reflection and problematization of socio-historical, economic and political factors.
