TEIXEIRA, Hanna Tamires Gomes Corrêa Leão  e  OLIVEIRA, Ivanilde Apoluceno de. Paulo Freire and the oppressed in popular education. Conjectura: filos. e Educ. [online]. 2022, vol.27, e022042.  Epub 20-Abr-2024. ISSN 2178-4612.  https://doi.org/10.18226/21784612.v27.e022042.

This article aims to analyze Paulo Freire's popular education, how it was characterized by the oppressed, and how this relationship with the oppressed was built in his life path, since childhood. This is an excerpt from a master's dissertation, in which a bibliographic survey of Freire's productions was conducted and content analysis was used with an emphasis on categorization. The results show that the oppressed category is fundamental to Freire's thinking, beyond a book title, it is a struggle present in his production by any person denied to be more. Results also indicate that Paulo Freire's entire life was filled with encounters with the other, with diversity, and with the oppressed, therefore, enabling him to outline ways to, in unison with these subjects, change their reality. Paulo Freire's revolutionary and transformative thinking in favor of the oppressed was built not only through readings and a few years of academic training, but also in his mind, body, in the starvation he experienced in the northeast, in how his children and himself suffered from the cold during exile and in him relearning Brazil with men; women; workers; educators; social movements activists and several others that constitute popular education. Since childhood, the difficulties he experienced taught Freire not to settle down and the urgency to transform. In his youth, he realized that it was only possible to be an educator through dialogue. In his adult life, wandering around the world and returning to Brazil, he noticed that popular education had to be reinvented in each context. Throughout the research, it was possible to conclude that education with the other and not for the other, is characterized as a premise of popular education.
