The present article is part of a doctoral dissertation in progress. Its object of study is the education of children by family in the nineteenth century in a particular region, the Province of Paraná. It aims to conduct a historiographical discussion on the treatment given to such historical phenomenon, nationally and internationally, pointing out a research problem developed from this discussion. Initially, it describes the path taken in the historiographical survey process. Then the local historiographical production analysis is conducted. Finally, we proceed with the dialogue with historiography, presenting, as a conclusion, a research problem, the hypotheses and the thesis developed from such historiographical discussion.
