SCHAPOCHNIK, Nelson. From The mysteries in Paris to the mysteries in Prata: translation, imitation and invention. LTP [online]. 2017, vol.35, n.71, pp.101-113. ISSN 2317-0972. https://doi.org/10.5965/0102-387Xv35n712017000113.
This paper explores the reception of the novel the mysteries of Paris among the Austral scholars and discusses how the establishment of distribution networks of journals, magazines and books contributed to give a cultural centrality to France and to root Francophonie and the prestige of French literature among the members of the Latin American elites. In this case, Francophonie became another element of social distinction, adding to the holders of this knowledge an unequivocal symbolic power. The lists of book remittances indicate a process of secularization of culture, with the rise of a multifarious set of bibliographical references, including fine-arts, science, and history. This article argues that translation and imitation have contributed to forging candidates for the career of writers.
