The authors discuss the various aspects of the crisis faced by the University, with emphasis on the growing enrollment of students in private institutions and on the conceptions which correspond on the one hand to the interests of capitalist reproduction and on the other to the interests of human development. Institutional evaluation should be formative and create spaces for reflection that help with the improvement of quality.
