WHEBERTH, Ana Paula Vilas Boas  e  FARAH, Beatriz Francisco. Permanent health education for Family Health Strategy physicians: perceptions and needs. Rev. Bras. Educ. Med. [online]. 2023, vol.47, n.4, e111.  Epub 20-Set-2023. ISSN 1981-5271.  https://doi.org/10.1590/1981-5271v47.4-2022-0328.

Introduction:

This article is based on the master’s thesis of the Professional Master’s Program in Family Health (PROFSAÚDE/MPSF) in partnership with the Federal University of Juiz de Fora, carried out by the first author, entitled Permanent Education for doctors of the Family Health Strategy from a central municipality in Minas Gerais, whose approval took place in June 2021. The article highlights the results of the research, whose method is described below. Permanent health education (PHE) proposes the inclusion of learning in everyday life and in the work environment, promoting the qualification of those who work in the Unified Health System (UHS). It is presented as a proposal for learning at work, in which learning and teaching are incorporated into the daily practices of organizations.

Objective:

The general objective of this study was to analyze the perceptions of physicians from the Family Health Strategy (FHS) in a hub municipality in Minas Gerais, about PHE and its needs.

Method:

Descriptive and exploratory with a quantitative and qualitative approach. Fifty-two physicians from the FHS participated. Data collection was carried out in two stages: in the first (quantitative), a questionnaire with closed and open questions was applied, and, in the second, a semi-structured interview was carried out. In the quantitative stage, the data were processed through descriptive analysis and, in the qualitative, through content analysis, of the thematic analysis type, using the IRAMUTEQ software, resulting in the creation of 2 categories.

Result:

It was found that the required medical profile is consistent with the competency-based curriculum of the Brazilian Society of Family and Community Medicine. According to the participants, PHE has its origin in the needs of work, and there is an expectation that, after being properly developed, it will promote the relevant transformations.

Conclusion:

In carrying out this study, it was found that there are urgent needs for PHE and that an important path must be developed so that the device is effectively used, in order to modify and qualify the practices in the FHS.
