The present paper discusses continuities and discontinuities within the national curricular policies of teacher education, through a multicultural perspective that values diversity and challenges prejudices. It discusses theoretical aspects linked to the multicultural project in the context of initial and continuing teacher education, and it also focuses curricular policies developed by the Brazilian government since 2003. The article problematizes under which perspectives and to what extent cultural diversity is represented in the discourses present in those policies. It pinpoints emphases and silences in those discourses, and it points to suggestions and recommendations for policy improvement in the light of multiculturalism.
