NASCIMENTO, Maria Letícia Barros Pedroso. Tupi or not Tupi: schooling since birth, who does it serve? Education is not schooling… Especially when we are talking about early childhood education. LTP [online]. 2013, vol.31, n.61, pp.153-168. ISSN 2317-0972.
In face of the growing institutionalization of young children in urban centers, we should inquire: what kind of education has been offered to children? The provocation contained in the proposition Tupi or not tupi: shooling since birth, who does it serve? leads us to two possibilities of analysis: one that relates the institutions and proposals for young children to different conceptions of childhood and interests; and a second, that raises positions and highlights the ambiguity regarding what may be best for young children in early childhood education. The paper concludes with the reaffirmation that the spaces of early childhood education are the primary locus of social experience of young children, where they (re)produce cultures with peers and adults, constituting the identity of this stage of education.
