This article aims to propose new educational indicators to monitor the engagement (or lack thereof) of graduates in basic education. The key constructs influencing the design of the proposed indicators include the adequacy of training, teacher dropout, retention, and commitment to the teaching profession. The methodology consists of developing two indicators that, through distinct approaches, establish a relationship between graduates from teacher training institutions and teachers currently working in schools. From the results obtained, we conclude that the fact that the majority of graduates do not work as teachers - along with a significant portion leaving the profession - represents a barrier to achieving Goal 15 of the Plano Nacional de Educação [National Education Plan].
