The pedagogical practice of the school A Voz do Operário [The Worker's Voice] is a model that opposes a competitive and individualistic education/teaching, which ideologically originates from the Movimento da Escola Moderna [Modern School Movement]. By involving the students in the teaching-learning process, where the curriculum rises from negotiated activities, everyone's knowledge is valued, putting more emphasis on the learning that comes from mutual help. We started from a quality methodology of documental basis to understand the historical, social, and political framework of the school A Voz do Operário, of Escola Nova [New School] and the Movimento da Escola Moderna. This was followed by an ethnography observation and a set of interviews. The visit and the interview to the school's headteacher allowed to observe the pedagogical dynamics and to conclude the this institution encourages its students to develop active citizenship values and to form a more responsible conscience: a mission as current as it is necessary.
