This text highlights the role of scientific entities in education between 2016 and 2023, marking the dispute between different societal projects. It turns to militant research as a tool to understand teaching policies and professional valorization. The hypothesis argued is that the symbiosis between activism and knowledge production was central to the non-implementation of the BNC-Formação. It is concluded that there is a complex political-economic scenario, with educational agendas more prominent in the early stages of the third Lula government, driven by public opinion and student and union mobilization. Valorization and training, especially initial teacher training, did not receive the expected centrality, indicating a diluted treatment of valorization in basic education. The low permeability of this theme in basic education suggests a limited treatment of the valorization concept, especially by distancing the initial training agenda from the other elements that compose it.
