The reflection presented in this theoretical essay proposes rethinking research methodologies in Mathematics Education from an anthropological perspective, promoting the making and appreciation of data as opposed to traditional collection and analysis, proposing a Mathematics Education that is more sensitive to cultural diversity and contributing to a plural and contextualized epistemology. Inspired by a critical and decolonial vision, it emphasizes the importance of methods such as participant observation, narratives and ethnographies that make it possible to capture cultural and social complexity. This movement aims to contribute to a Mathematics Education rooted in diversity, valuing the plurality of cultural knowledge and encouraging dialogue between school knowledge and local practices. This promotes a more democratic, transformative education that is connected to students’ social realities.
