The present study is aimed at obtaining a better understanding of the function of the educational supervisor by clearly defining points of reference. These have been built from statistics gathered from actual educational supervisor and the school superintendents and teachers with whom they work, as well as students taking the Supervision courseat Colleges of Education. Our initial hypothesis was that each one of the four groups in its perception of the educational's supervisor function included its own particular view of the matter. The data were gathered using questionnaires, inteviews, and a special instrument of evaluation which we bult based on W. Stephenson's Q-technique, and referred to as PF-AP. The analysis of the data showed that the perception of the educational supervisor's function contained a common nucleus, that is, aspects shared by all the groups. The four groups had in common their opinions about the co-ordination, orientation, control of the school curriculum, and also the evaluation of its execution. They differed significantly on how the educational supervisor should carry out his duties and also on the value they attached to the various activities related to that function.
