This paper analyses the situation of women at the Brazilian universities and their performance at the college entrance examination. Taking in account the great expansion this level of education has shown in recent years, the authors examine the kind ofevolution women participation has had in the various areas of study at the university and make an analysis of the careers choice of the candidates taking the college entrance examination. An analysis of the student's performance at this examination, based on the variable set, is also reported and the authors suggest possible lines of research that could more deeply explore those aspects related to the occupational choices and academic performance of female students.
