The scores of multiple choice and essay items applied in an introductory college Physics course, are compared. Different behaviours are involved in the test items and its construction is founded on educational objectives previously defined. Nodifference has been detected in the scores and this resultpermit us to conclude that there are no significant differences between essay and multiple-choice types of evaluation.
