Resumen

GUIRADO, Marlene et al. Influência do método Montessori na aquisição da noção de seriação. Cad. Pesqui. [online]. 1978, n.26, pp.81-89. ISSN 0100-1574.

This study was designed to compare the effects of two different educational methods on children's operatory performance in Piagetian's seriation tests. 84 children were divided into 2 groups - one from schools which use the Montessori Method (GM) and the other from schools which use anyother educational method (GO). These groups (both from São Paulo) were watched by age (6, 7, 8 or 9 years) and socio-economical status. A volume conservation test was used as control. The seriation test consisted of 2 phases: in the first one, children were asked to order the sticks, which were given all at once; in the second phase, the sticks were given one by one and the children had to insert each stick in the serie. The results of each phase were classified into non-seriation (NS), intuitive seriation (SI) or operatory seriation (SO). The main difference - 22 subjects in group M and 12 subjects in group O - occurred in SO, in the first phase. It can be considered that success in this phase is different from success on the second phase, where the solution implies an operation of transitivity. The discussion was mainly based on Piaget's criticism of Montessori Method in terms of its emphasis on performance's traing rather than operatory structure's acquisition.
