The paper is a critical appraisal of a sample of articles and graduate dissertations (PhD and MD Thesis) available in the library of the Psychology Institute of the University of São Paulo, that have children as subjects of psychological research. It demonstrates that the approaches adopted by the majority of the authors do not consider children as human beings with their own subjectivity, treating them as a historical entities, placed in a socio-economic milieu that is not well defined, judging them from the dominant class point of view, isolated from their natural environment, divided in many behaviors and abilities that are measured with questionable instruments. Besides that, the authors analysed are seldom engaged in programs of action that could question their intelectual work.
