An exploratory study about a teaching experience with two groups of students (24 in group A and 25 in group B) taking a course on "Didática I" (Methodology). Simulation and reflective teaching were used as instructional alternatives for teacher training. The main objective of the investigation was to verify if there was a relationship between (a) the students' major course and their academic results, and (b) the final grades in the course and the students' self evalutation, considering the same group and the different groups. The instruments used in the data collection were: a test of knowledge and abilities in the area of teaching and learning (TE-KAE), two content tests, and a self evaluation scale. The statistical analysis included the T test, the KrusKal-Wallis test, the Mann Whitney U test, and the Spearman correlation. Among the obtained results it was observed that (a) there is a statistically significant difference, in relation to the academic performance, between students of the same group, but coming from different major areas, (b) the academic results of the students in the TE-KAE test are positively related with the self-evaluation scale and (c) there is a significant difference among the students' self-evaluation scores, considering their final grades in the course.
