This paper analyses legislation on women's work during the thirties and the forties as part of authoritarian Government's project directly aiming at the family. Legislation enacted in 1932 and during Estado Novo (Vargas Government) Protected a certain kind of patriarcal family, meaning the oppression of women, their desexualization and their identification as "mothers". Analysis of legislation is followed by content examination of the Boletim do Ministério do Trabalho, Indústria e Comércio, published since 1934.
