The author develops a critical analysis of the science of education, suggesting that they still do not constitute a homogeneous corpus, that is, they do not integrate a general theory of education. Three components are identified in the sciences of education: explanation, normatively, and utopia. Though the examination of each of them and of their interrelations, the author suggest paths for the development of a theory about an object that he sees as basically open.
