Based on data collected from job seekers at eight factories in two capital cities in the Northeast, this study sought to measure conformal education's contribution to the obtainment of skilled blue collar employment. The result suggest that NFE plays a positive, albeit limited role. Of the variables considered, it alone significantly effects job acquisition and, along with employer’s recommendation, also influences being judged apt for the job. An expanded version of the model in which occupational obtainment was viewed as a three step learning process indicated that formal and work experience enter the picture as key determinants of the level of bue collar job the unenployed worker chooses to seek. Relating the results to the debate concerning the education/labor market relationship, it seems that certain of the study's findings are at odds with the human capital and credentialist perspective, but consistent with the worker socialization model.
