The article analyses the genesis and the evolution of school administration theories considering its relations with the history of administrative theory itself. The author intends to demonstrate that the assumptions which support administrative theory sets its origins on needs derived from the development of capitalism, such as the external control of action related to the division of labor whose purpose is the reproduction of capital. The author considers the possibilities and limitations of school administration theories and suggests a new school administrator emphasizing the educational aspect of school and not the organizational one and the political face of educational action and not the technical aspect.
