In this text Bernsteis discusses the meaning of the main trend in preschool education which he calls "invisible pedagogy". Examining its characteristics and pressupositions, he identifies this trend with the values and habits of the advanced capitalist countries "new middle class", discussing the consequences of the adoption of this pedagogy for children of different social levels, at various school grades.
