Resumen

The study reported here is part of the research project "Introduction of Educational Technology in Brazil". It is an evaluation of Logos II - an inservice teacher education program - aiming at identifying the strenghts as well as the shortcomings of the program in the state of Piauí. Themain sources of information were the local team of coordinators, 5 teachers' supervisors, 772 student teachers, observation and document review data. Findings of the study showed that both the student-teachers and the teachers' supervisors agreed that the use of instructional modules is an effective inservice teacher training strategy since the teachers don't need to leave their jobs to get a teacher certificate. Another strenght of the program they pointed out was the immediate application of the training in the teachers' classrooms. Several questions are raised however, concerning the goals of the program and its social relevance, the appropriateness of the program to the concrete situation of teachers and to the regional diversities where they work.
